Created in 1994 to “provide the city with a structure capable of combatting regional asymmetries, provide citizens with spaces for education and cultural enjoyment in the field of theatre”, the Teatro Oficina (TO) has helped attract and build the loyalty of theatre audiences, and tries to reverse the main trends of artistic reception. In addition to the creation of new productions, it assumes a fundamental role in terms of theatrical training for everyone, through cultural dissemination and welcoming writers in residencies. In 2017, the TO opened the doors to a new cycle of relationship with the territory, and started to assume its position as the Theatre Company of Guimarães.
