9 — 12 ABRIL
Westway LAB, LIVE, MEETING - New Additions!
Event
When spring arrives, it brings with it a special event that takes over our schedules and connections: Westway LAB, LIVE, MEETING.
In the LAB segment, the selected Portuguese and international artists will reside and create together for a week at the Candoso Creation Center. They will then present the results on the evenings of Wednesday (April 9) and Thursday (April 10) at the Café Concerto at the Vila Flor Cultural Center: Catuxa Salom (ES), Estêvão (PT), Luís Contrário (PT), Malinwa (PT), Nobre (PT), TEll A ViSiON (DE), and SHY (IR).
The LIVE segment brings exciting new acts, including C'Mon Tigre (IT), Collignon (NL), Homem em Catarse (PT), IBSXJAUR (PT), JoeJas (UK), Lana Gasparøtti (PT), Maria Chiara Argirò (IT), Martha Da'ro (BE), Them Flying Monkies (PT), and Visco (PT). These projects join previously announced artists such as Chico Bernardes (BR), emmy Curl (PT), Fidju Kitxora (PT), and Maidavale (SE). More names will soon be revealed to complete the LIVE concert lineup, which will take place on April 11 and 12, contributing to the atmosphere that defines each edition of Westway.
The MEETING component program is also packed with novelties, with more confirmed national and international guests who will discuss the future of "sound & image," focusing on innovation, circularity, sustainability, and capacity-building for internationalization. This edition will feature a keynote with directors Rodrigo Areias and Aki Kaurismäki, alongside the already announced keynote with musician The Legendary Tigerman.
In this same segment, the guest list is further consolidated with Francisco Borges (GDA Foundation, PT), Frank Kimenai (researcher, Rotterdam University, NL), Gordon Masson (IQ Mag, UK), João Vasconcelos (Canal 180, PT), Luis Masquete (Maus Hábitos, PT), Luís Soares (Rock in Rio, PT), Mário Carneiro (GDA Foundation, PT), Michel Attia (FM4 | Austria, AT), Paola Wescher (Last Tour, BR), Ricardo Bramão (Talkfest, PT), Rikke Andersen (SPOT Festival, DK), Sara Aires (SMUP Parede, PT), Sara Machado (Creative Europe, PT), Susana Costa Pereira (Creative Europe, PT), Tiffany Fukuma (Keychange, FR), Turo Pekari (Music Finland, FI), and Vitor Belanciano (Moderator, PT), with more surprises yet to be revealed.
In this context, WHY Portugal joins again as a partner, participating in the curation of the MEETING component, which aims to bring together invited programmers and agents, artists, and other industry professionals in the same room. Opportunities for 1-to-1 networking, informal networking, and space for idea exchange and partnership creation will be available. The first names proposed by WHY Portugal for this edition of Westway are now revealed: André Pereira (Festival Mêda+, PT), Elena Beltrami (Como No/La Linea Festival, UK), Filip Košťálek (Colours Festival, CZ), Hugo Pequeno (23 Milhas - Ílhavo, PT), Nuno Homem (Bacana, ES), Patrik Szilágyi (Budapest Music Centre, HU), Roel Vanhoeck (Bozar, BE), and Valentina Zanella (Creativi Musicali/Torino Music Meeting/MASA, IT).
The “Encontro RTCP - foco música” initiative, a meeting dedicated to the Portuguese Network of Theaters and Cinemas, will bring together artists, programmers, and agents. This will mark the beginning of this edition of Westway on the first day of the event, April 9th.
