FRIDAY FEBRUARY 9TH, 21H30
Beings
For ages 6 and above
Event
From one to two, I glimpse the "self" through us. "Beings" draws inspiration from the Chinese character "人" (person). The dance piece explores the ties between the two brushstrokes that support calligraphy, between the two performers intimately connected, between rice paper and ink. "Beings" deeply connects its two performers in an emotional duet that culminates in an unexpected twist.
"Beings" was presented at the Aerowaves Spring Forward 2022, held in the city of Elefsina, Greece. Aerowaves is the most important European network supporting emerging contemporary dance, with Centro Cultural Vila Flor as a presenting partner.
Yeu-Kwn Wang is a choreographer and the founder of Shimmering Production. In addition to exploring the connections and distances between people and cities/people and environments, Yeu-Kwn also focuses on bodily alienation linked to urbanity. His works often utilize spaces and objects to deconstruct movements and pose philosophical questions in contemporary contexts through dance. In 2019, he was selected as an artist-in-residence at Treasure Hill Artist Village in Taipei for three months, and this beautiful period became a starting point for the creation of "Beings," a three-chapter project related to the theme of human interaction.
Before founding Shimmering Production, Yeu-Kwn was a dancer at Cloud Gate 2 from 2008-2015. Recently, he also received three awards at the 27th Yokohama Dance Collection in Japan, becoming the first Taiwanese choreographer to achieve this feat.
